Freddy Bailey has been in the coin machine industry since the early days of the 1950s when his late Father David Bailey bought an Amusement Arcade on the East Coast of Great Britain.
Freddy's late Father had been a traveling Showman whose family was a direct descendant of the World-famous Barnum & Bailey circus fame (see various stories, under the MEMORY LANE section).
After opening their Amusement Arcade, the family ventured into installing Jukeboxes, Slot Machines and Pinball Machines in various locations in the area. Freddy, then 18 years of age, along with his brother-in-law, formed a company called Automatic Games and Music Ltd. They soon became the largest company of this type on the East Cost of Great Britain.
In 1962 Freddy split with his brother-in-law and took over the company; in those days the operating of coin-operated machines was in its infancy, also at this time Great Britain was just legalizing slot machines in Public Houses (Bars and Taverns). This opened up a whole new stream of locations, most of the Public Houses were owned and operated by large Brewery chains who soon realised that operating slot machines in their locations was a major source of income, but instead of dealing with small operators with maybe 10 - 20 locations, they decided to operate with only the large slot machine distributors. The rest is history and is covered under th COIN MACHINE HISTORY section on this site.

The Coin Machine Historian
A retro games expert in the US is Briton Freddy Bailey, (seen on the right) some of whose 50-plus years in the coin machine industry have been spent in New Jersey, where he lives today with his family, and has a little factory where he remakes the famous video games of yesteryear. In the 1980s the coin-operated video game industry around the world was building thousands of games on a daily basis, do we ever ask ourselves where did they all go, while many thousands were scrapped, many thousands have survived, but where are they? Well, Bailey has researched this so-called mystery and the answer is "The Home Market" or the so-called "Man's Cave". You can visit Freddy Bailey at his new showroom located at 591 61st St West New York, NJ 07093. Please go to our distributors page to find a distributor near you.
